MG Blaze Zaku Phantom (Dearka custom) build retrospective

What do you do when Bandai announces the Rey’s Blaze Zaku and you’ve got the Green one lying around? Give ya boy Dearka some love of course!

This is my first time building the same particular MG three times. The Zaku itself is a very simple build and busting the box open to see such few parts was enough to get me motivated to build it right away. The Blaze also is the least bullshit out of all the 3 variants available, the pack does not have any seams with the major trade-off being that there are many details which need to be painted/masked.

Since Rey’s and Deakka’s colour scheme have the same quirk of having the inside of the white chest vents being coloured this was a good exercise for me. The vent was first painted yellow, then the inside was masked off and then white painted over.

On a related note, if you’re after Rey’s White version, please consider getting it from The Hangar Bay, you can use code SAINTISM06 to save 6%!

Update: Again, right after I took pictures I felt the need to tinker with the kit, I ended up painting the pins on the grenades as well as the red on the leg vent. The vent itself was a major headache since I had to drill a hole in the back of the part in order to push it out and I had a major blunder when I drilled just a bit too far. Oops 🙁

    Beautiful work, mate.
Nice highlight/shades, colour mixes for the orange and red are perfect.
So easy for a dark mech to lose all detail, but you’ve avoided that entirely.
